How some people think

Imagine a small child that burned his finger on a hot stove. By burning his finger, he creates a very powerful belief system. From then on in, he will never touch the stove again, which disables him from ever contradicting his own belief. So the belief system ends up reinforcing itself and a kind of circularity in thinking is established.

Many people in life think in much the same way, especially with political idealogies. I’ll probably highlight some examples of this in later entries in my blog.

In short, strongly held beliefs lead people to see the world in such a way that prevents them from contradicting their strongly held beliefs.
